The College of Health Sciences emblem is designed to serve as a visual reminder of what the MMM College of Health Sciences stands for. The various elements of the designing echo the institution’s commitment to its students, their parents and members of the community which it has vowed to serve.
The shield in the emblem represents the scientific knowledge of medicine and healthcare that protects us from ignorance and superstition in our quest for saving lives and improving health. The three-faceted logo of The Madras Medical Mission on the upper left quadrant of the shield signifies the institution’s guiding star and its lineage of compassionate care. On its right is the traditional symbol of healing and medicine, the staff of Asclepius with a single serpent encircling a knotty tree limb. On the bottom left is the depiction of a microscope that denotes the institution’s focus on practical training and research, while on the bottom right a traditional classroom is portrayed emphasizing the value of providing a strong theoretical base in its pedagogy
The caduceus typically depicted as a short herald's staff entwined by two serpents in the form of a double helix, and surmounted by wings The meaning, purpose, and esoteric meaning of the caduceus can often be interpreted from the sum of its parts. The staff (particularly the herald's staff) was a symbol of authority carried in the hands of messengers. The winged quality of the wand of Hermes is in keeping with the alchemical or astrological importance of Mercury (whether taken to mean the planet, god, and element), quite often denoting fluidity, transformation, information, and new beginnings (as the elemental quarter of air is often likened to). The snake is often depicted in non Judeo-Christian traditions as a source or deliverer of wisdom. Note that the snakes are bound to each other in a double helix - a shape of stability, creation, and life (notably, the shape of the DNA) In this it can be seen that the caduceus represents the authority to quickly deliver vital information or wisdom to aid, assist and enlighten and invention
The bottom portion of the logo has three pages of a book inscribed with Knowledge, Commitment and Par Excellence. MMM Academia always believes in these three virtues as quintessential in its journey of Allied Health Education.
Gaining Knowledge, supplemented and complemented with a professional Commitment can only take an individual to Par Excellence; ultimately bring the transformation necessary for the well being of a society. The same has been represented in the form of three stars surrounding the caduceus.
The Circle encompassing all the elements of the logo represents the Globe and the global vision that MMM has to transcend geographical boundaries in imparting quality education in Health Care arena.
