The Department of Respiratory Medicine was established in The Madras Medical Mission premises in the year 2013. The department provides the latest options in diagnosing and treating patients with lung diseases. It caters to the following comprehensive range of sub-specialty services.

Outpatient Department Services
The outpatient department (OPD) functions Monday to Friday starting 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. The procedures that are performed in the OPD include
1. Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) Recording
2. Pulmonary Function Testing – Pre & Post Bronchodilator
3. Specialty Clinics (Asthma, Sleep clinic, COPD, Pulmonary Rehabilitation)
4. 6-Minute walk test

In-Patient Services

1. Wardadmissisons
2. Intensive Care Unit – 9 Beds with state-of-the-art bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP)machine, ventilators and high-flow nasal oxygen (HFNO)
3. Seeing cross-referral patients from other specialties

Sleep Clinic

The department offers Domino Polysomnography with video & EEG recording (Level 1 study). Level 1 study is performed on adults with comorbid conditions including Neurological disorders, Cardiac problems, and Liver & Kidney diseases. We also perform Auto-CPAP and Manual CPAP titration.

Asthma Clinic

1. Bronchial asthma clinic functions on all Mondays and Thursday
2. Diagnosis with the help of spirometry pre & post bronchodilator tests
3. Patient counseling on inhalational techniques, diet modification and exercises
4. Check for compliance to devices

COPD Clinic/ Pulmonary Rehabilitation

1. COPD clinic functions on all Tuesdays and Thursdays
2. Patient counseling on inhalational techniques &giving awareness on COPD
3. Patient counseling on chest physiotherapy, importance of ACAPELLA Respirometer.
